Ash Bernal
Ash is a documentary and commercial filmmaker with over a decade of experience, specializing in character-driven storytelling rooted in authenticity and human connection.
After college, she returned to her hometown in western Colorado, where she began directing music videos and deepened her interest in documentary work before joining a production studio. Since 2017, Ash has been a core member of Hoptocopter Films, directing, producing, and leading post-production on projects for a wide range of clients, with an emphasis on thoughtful, human-centered stories.
In 2019, she expanded into independent work and now operates across every stage of the filmmaking process, from development through final delivery. Her approach is grounded in trust, access, and emotional honesty, with a particular focus on stories that explore identity, community, and place.
When not on set or in the edit bay, Ash spends her time outdoors, exploring the wilderness with her partner and their labradoodle. They split their time between her hometown and her wife’s hometown, New Orleans.
